Ofsted Inspection - March 2019 (Registered Provision)

In March 2019 our Registered Nursery Provision (2 years and under) underwent a scheduled inspection by Ofsted. We were delighted that our Nursery was judged to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas for the third inspection in a row.

The 2019 inspection result was particularly pleasing, following a number of recent staff changes and substantial growth in our nursery numbers.

ISI Inspection - May 2018 (Compliance Inspection)

Polam joined the Independent Schools Association (ISA) in Summer 2017. As a result our inspection body changed from School Inspection Service (SIS), who inspected the school in December 2016, to Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).  ISI carry out two types of inspection, which are Educational Quality Inspections (including a focused compliance inspection) and Regulatory Compliance Inspections.

Regulatory compliance inspections report on a school’s compliance with the Independent School Standards Regulations, and where applicable the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).    Compliance only inspections report solely on the school’s compliance with the standards.  These standards relate to all aspects of school life including quality of education, children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, health and safety, safeguarding, provision of information, complaints as well as the quality of leadership and management.  The judgements given are either met or not met.  All schools are required to meet all the standards.

The inspection carried out at Polam on 10th and 11th May 2018 was a Regulatory Compliance Inspection and was carried out without notice.  The registered provision (0 – 2 years) was not inspected on this occasion.

We are extremely happy with the outcome of the inspection and the resulting report which outlines that the school met all the Independent School Standards Regulations.

SIS Inspection - December 2016 (Full Inspection)

Both the School and the Nursery underwent an inspection by the Schools Inspection Service in December 2016. The Nursery was judged to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas while the School was judged Outstanding in 2 out of 5 areas, with a very solid ‘Good’ for the remaining 3 areas.

The 2016 inspection proved to be a very positive experience for us all, with the reports highlighting the smooth transition in leadership over the past year and the “unanimous” support and approval from parents.

December 2016

Polam School provides a happy and safe learning environment where relationships are good and pupils throughout the school thrive and make good progress… Small classes and high pupil teacher ratios ensure that teachers have an in-depth knowledge of the pupils, supported by assessment that ensures pupils are supported and challenged at the right level.

The report makes continual reference to the positive behaviour of the children, the fact that they are happy and clearly enjoy school, and that the community is caring, friendly and safe, with every child known by each member of staff.

Schools Inspection Service

December 2016

The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils is outstanding. The ethos of the school and it’s aims contribute significantly to all aspects of pupils’ personal development… They grow in self esteem and self-confidence as they are well known and valued as unique individuals in the small, close community of the school.

Needless to say we feel very proud of this inspection. A change in leadership can be an unsettling time, but to receive such positive feedback when the new Senior Leadership Team had only been in place for a short time, makes us positive and excited about the future at Polam.

Teaching and assessment are good with significant strengths… Teachers are experienced and confident in teaching Literacy and Numeracy and as a result pupils make good progress in these areas….Some aspects of the curriculum are of outstanding quality, for example, the wide range of learning opportunities provided through extra curricular activities and clubs.

The report demonstrates clearly that your children will be at the centre of everything we do, and that by joining Polam School, your child will be given every opportunity to flourish in a home from home environment.
