During this period of online learning, we are as keen as ever to ensure that pupils receive as broad an experience as possible, accepting the given limitations. With a potential increase in the amount of time spent on screens and devices, it will be even more vital to build time into the day for fresh air, exercise and other enriching activities. With this in mind, we plan to enable all pupils to strike a healthy balance, by giving over time each day to a range of types of learning. A range of activities will be suggested per day that your child can access above and beyond Maths and Literacy. The children can complete as much of these as they like – we hope these will be fun and can include other family members as you navigate learning at home together.
Art and Design
We will provide ideas for art and craft and many of these will be set via Seesaw and can be uploaded by children on the seesaw platform.
Mrs Phillips will be setting music activities via seesaw and is thinking about ways in which we can come together and have a virtual sing-a-long!
Games and PE
During this period we will be sharing ideas for sports and staying fit. Class teachers will be sharing links to a range of physical activities such as yoga and of course the Joe Wicks morning sessions which are a great way to start your day.
Cognita Home Olympics – 18th to 22nd May 2020
In the absence of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Cognita will be running The Cognita Home Olympics. This will be a great way of connecting, competing, and celebrating through physical endeavour.
The Games will start with an opening ceremony and the Cognita Creed.
Each day will include one fitness and one skill event for every age group (including parents!) for 4 days, with the closing ceremony and results announced on the 5th day. The standards will be circulated at the end of April giving pupils and families the chance to train for their selected events, and examples might include things like the plank or juggling!
This will be an opportunity to represent yourselves as a family, Polam as a school community as well as Cognita UK. Sport is a great way to bring communities together and has the bonus of making us feel happier and healthier.
We will send out further details about how to enter by the beginning of May.
Cognita Competitions are a series of optional pupil competitions, designed to provide children with an opportunity to connect and share their creative flair and celebrate children’s work.
There will be a series of three competitions based on the following titles:
- From my window
- Sunshine after the rain
- Thank you
Results of each competition will be shared on the Cognita Online Community and the school/pupil will be contacted directly to present their prize from the individual competition judge.
We are hoping to join in with these competitions – more information will be provided as the term progresses.
