History

Polam Oaks with Little Acorns Nursery was formed in 2009 as the result of a merger between two popular and successful Bedford Schools, Acorn and Polam.

Margaret & Vic Mason opened Acorn Nursery in 1985 in St. Andrews Road.  It was also their family home and it soon became known for the friendly family atmosphere.  At one time in it's history all four members of the family were working there.  With encouragement from parents, Acorn Nursery was extended to offer education up to 8 years of age in 1987 and thus became known as Acorn School.  It was acquired by the Cognita Schools Group in October 2008.

Polam School was founded in 1923 by Miss Crump in her home, and moved to the current site on Lansdowne Road after the end of the Second World War.  In 1962, it was acquired by Mr. & Mrs. Poole, who arrived with their three children and soon Polam became well-known for the special family atmosphere.  The school was acquired by the Cognita Schools Group in 2004.

We have an excellent success rate with assessments to the three Harpur Trust Schools in Bedford.
