Specialist Teaching
Science
Science is an important subject, in which we aim to encourage an inquiring and investigative approach, with the emphasis on practical work investigations and interpretation of results.
IT
The school is networked with computers in each classroom and a superbly equipped IT Suite. Children quickly become familiar with their operation and capabilities. Children progress from simple applications in the Nursery to more advanced applications such as word processing, computer graphics, desktop publishing, data handling and use of the internet.
Art
We encourage an original approach to art and children use many different materials and techniques as they progress through the school.
DT
Children are taught the skills of Design Technology using various skills and materials. They work both as individuals and as members of a team, using imagination and initiative.
Physical Education
Throughout the school, all children follow a structured course of Physical Education, developing confidence and ability in gymnastics and games skills. A variety of sports are played year round in the Sports Hall, whilst athletics and summer games take place on the sports field.
There are further clubs for tennis, gymnastics, dance, athletics, cricket and many other sports. Team fixtures are arranged between other schools, including the Harpur Trust schools.
All children have a weekly swimming lesson in our indoor pool under the expert guidance of ASA swimming instructors.
Music
Music is taught throughout the school. As ability improves, children have the opportunity to specialise in various instruments or to join the choir. Individual piano lessons are available.
Drama
Regular school productions take place in the Sports Hall which can be transformed into a fully equipped theatre.
